Samuel: Hey, Ben, can you introduce me to your boss?

Ben: Of course, Samuel.

(After about 4 minutes)

Samuel: President Bush, this is my good friend, Samuel.

Ben: Nice to meet you. Should I call you Samuel, or...?

Samuel: You can just call me Sam. It’s a great honor to meet you. I’ve heard a lot about you. President Bush.

Mr Bush: Oh, I hope nothing bad! Just call me John, please. Are you having fun?

Samuel: Yes, it’s been good fun! People are nice here.

Ben: Do you want something to drink?

1. Can you introduce me to your boss? 你可以把我介绍给你的老板吗？

[语句功能] 这句话是场面话，这样说才不易让对方拒绝向聊天的话题。

[语句功能] 对方提出请求时，如果你愿意提出帮助，常用此句话来回答。

3. Should I call you Samuel, or...?

我该怎么称呼你呢？塞缪尔还是……？

[语句功能] 外国人常用昵称或名字的简称来称呼别人，以表示亲近，所以我们在初识事先问对方可否用昵称来称呼他，意在尊重对方是否同意以昵称拉近距离。

4. It’s a great honor to meet you. 很高兴认识你。

[语句功能]初次见面时常用的语句。

5. Are you having fun? 你玩得愉快吗？
